Tell me a bit about yourself: I'm an Aussie living in France (just outside Geneva!) with my husband and two teenage kids. I trained as an ESL teacher and later a proofreader but am not working due to visa restrictions - so I have lots of time for sewing!! I learnt as a teenager but only got back into it a few years ago, first with quilts then with clothes. I mostly only make for myself and am well on the way to a totally me-made wardrobe! I don't know any people who sew so the Instagram sewing community is an incredible lifeline. I only sew patterns made by independent pattern designers and buy all my fabric online (through necessity).
What In the Folds size do you wear? (Very few of us fit into a pattern straight out of the envelope. You can choose as many of these as you need). : Size D
What bust cup size do you normally make / wear?: A cup
Which pattern did you use?: The Rushcutter, The Collins Top
What type of fabric did you make the garment/s from?: I made a summer linen sleeveless Rushcutter and a winter long-sleeves version in needlecord and lightweight wool. I made the sleeveless Collins top in cotton lawn, and the sleeved version in linen.
What alterations (if any) did you make to the pattern/s?: I slimmed down the winter Rushcutter a little in the skirt part.
If you made this pattern/s again, would you do anything differently?: The French seams on my the linen Rushcutter got a little bulky - I think the linen was a little too thick.
What would be your top tip for other makers using this pattern/s?: Use fabrics that play up the cool design lines!
I'd love to hear about a happy memory from when you made or wore this garment or garments!: I first wore my red linen Rushcutter on holidays in New York and felt great!! (It is also the first time I have worn a belted dress and felt comfortable!!) Even my teenage son commented on the dress!
I have received lots of lovely compliments on my white linen Collins top, especially the design lines on the back. And it's the perfect top for a hot summers day.
What do you love most about In the Folds patterns?: The really interesting design elements.
