What is a digital pattern?

A digital pattern is a PDF version of the pattern that will be sent to you automatically after purchase. You will be sent a link (to the designated email address) that will give you access to a zip file, that includes the pattern and instruction booklet as PDF files. You can print the pattern at home on A4 or US letter sized paper, and then trim and assemble to create the full size pattern. The purchase also includes a copy shop file (A0 size), if you would prefer to skip the assembling and take the file to a copy shop for printing.

Digital patterns can only be downloaded a maximum of 3 times. Be sure to download the pattern and save it to your computer (or storage service) so that you can download it as many times as you like.

DO I NEED A SPECIAL PRINTER TO PRINT DIGITAL SEWING PATTERNS?

No! You can  print the file on any old home printer and then trim and stick the pieces back together to create the original full size pattern. Pretty neat, right? This means that you can see a dress you like (while sitting at home drinking tea in your pyjamas), purchase it, and then be making it that very evening!

How do I get my digital pattern?

When you purchase a digital product you will be given a unique URL to download your pattern from, which will be given to you after the order is processed. The URL will be displayed directly after purchase as well as emailed to you. From there just click on the link provided to download each of the files in our pattern to save to your hard drive. If you can’t see where the pattern is, check the downloads file on your computer.

What is a zip file and why can’t I open it on my phone or tablet?

A zip file is a file that has been compressed so it can be sent and downloaded, without taking up too much storage. In the Folds patterns are compressed into zip files, so you will need to download and open the pattern on a desktop or laptop.

How do I know I am printing the pattern to the correct scale?

Open the pattern file in a PDF viewer (Acrobat Reader can be downloaded for free here) and print Page 1 only. Before printing the file, you will need to check the scaling settings on your printer. You want to print the pattern at its true scale (the scale it was designed in). To do this, go into your print settings and select “actual size” or set page scaling to ‘none’ or ‘turn off page scaling.’ Once printed, take a ruler and measure the test square to ensure you are printing at the correct scale.

 

Order shipping

How do you ship orders?

All orders ship via USPS. You can choose between First Class, Priority, or Priority Flat Rate at checkout depending on the weight of your order for both domestic and international orders. Please note that First Class shipping, while cheap, does not come with a tracking number. If you need to use a shipping method other than USPS please contact us prior to ordering.

When will my order ship?

We ship orders daily so you can expect your package to ship within 24 of placing your order with the exception of weekends and holidays. You will receive an email notifying you of the shipment to the email associated with your order. Please note that our business hours are Monday – Friday from 10am – 5pm CST and no orders will ship outside those hours.

How long will it take my package to arrive?

Domestic orders shipped via First Class or Priority Flat Rate should arrive within 2-5 business days. Internationally Priority Mail typically arrives within 10 days and First Class within 2-3 weeks. These are simply estimates though, and it can take up to 15 days domestically and up to 30 days internationally for USPS First Class mail to reach its destination. If you need expedited shipping please contact us before ordering.

My package hasn’t shown up, what do I do?

We are not responsible for lost or stolen packages, please make sure to double check your address when imputing it into the order form. If a package is returned as undeliverable we are happy to re-send the package at the purchasers expense to another address. If you suspect your package is lost, please contact us at orders@grainlinestudio.com so we can work out a solution.

Why is shipping to my country so expensive?

Unfortunately we do not set the shipping rates. At checkout your shipping cost is calculated in real time by the USPS based on the weight of the package. The good news is that Grainline Studio patterns are carried worldwide so a quick check of our retailers list should yield one closer to you, which will reduce your shipping cost.

I’m purchasing outside the United States, what about customs?

All orders are shipped with the full retail value of the product stated on the customs form and we are unable to change this or list the product as a gift. Orders placed outside the US may be subject to various import taxes and charges, these are your responsibility as the purchaser. For more information regarding these please contact your local customs office.

 

Returns

What is your return policy?

All physical patterns can be returned within 30 days of purchase as long as the pattern is unopened and in the same condition it arrived in. You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund. Please contact us at hello@inthefolds.com before shipping us any returns and include your order number so that we know to expect the return in the mail.

Due to the nature of digital files we do not accept returns on our PDF patterns or products.

 

Miscellaneous

IS SEAM ALLOWANCE INCLUDED IN YOUR PATTERNS OR DO I HAVE TO ADD IT MYSELF?

Seam allowance is included on all pattern pieces, and varies according to the seam line (although most seams are 1.2cm / ½”). Seam allowance is specified in the pattern instructions and individual pattern pieces. Digital patterns have both the stitch line and the cutting line indicated so that it is easier for you to make adjustments / hack your patterns. Instructions include both metric and imperial measurements.

CAN I GIVE A COPY OF THE PATTERN TO MY FRIEND?

No, you may not copy, resell, share, distribute or publish (online or otherwise) any portion of any of In the Folds patterns.

CAN I SELL ITEMS MADE FROM YOUR PATTERNS?

No, patterns are for personal use only. I am happy for you to use the pattern to make a gift for a friend though!

CAN I TEACH A SEWING CLASS USING YOUR SEWING PATTERNS?

Yes! I would love that. Each student will have to purchase their own copy of the pattern for the class though.

CAN I USE A PHOTO FROM YOUR BLOG ON MY WEBSITE?

Yes you can! But please remember to credit www.inthefolds.com and link back to the original image. Tutorials are for personal use and cannot be reproduced without permission.
